Dr Raymond Shuey is a former Victorian police officer and Assistant Commissioner for Traffic and Operations.
His work bringing in the 50 km per hour speed limit in suburban areas is just one of many ways he's saved lives throughout his career.
The tragedy of road death was imprinted on Ray at a very young age when a classmate was killed.
Later, Ray's brother and sister-in law both died as victims of a road accident.
Since retiring from Victoria Police, Ray has achieved a PhD in international road safety, and has been teaching his 'culture of safety' internationally.
Ray is Victoria's Senior Australian of the Year 2020 and is also President of the International Safety Foundation which helps lower income countries with road safety and medical equipment
