Our first two weeks back in Term 4!

It’s been just two weeks since Term 4 began, and already our facilitators have been making their mark in our road safety webinars ‘CARPOOL’ and ‘Steer Right’.

Williamstown High School responded to their community’s call for road safety education by hosting two evening CARPOOL sessions, for around 90 households from their senior years cohort. Our team, and our friends from Victoria Police’s Westgate Proactive Policing Unit who conducted a live Q and A, were so thrilled to talk to so many Learner Drivers and their Supervising Drivers across the 2 sessions.

And the feedback is in: 100% of the respondents have said that they would recommend CARPOOL to others. On a 5 point rating scale, participants indicated that the session “responded to some of the concerns we have about navigating the GLS” (4.1), and that CARPOOL “enabled us to consider strategies that will help keep me and my Learner Driver safe on the road” (4.4).

Other feedback we received include:

“Interesting, informative, upbeat and clear.”

“I found the program addressed a good variety of concerns I had as a learner driver.”

Moving onto our school-based webinar; ‘Steer Right’. Term 4 is typically tricky as schools are focussed on preparing students for end-of-year exams, but this year there was also the added stress of transitioning from remote learning back into school-based learning. Despite this, schools responded to the call for road safety education, and Fit to Drive ran 31 Steer Right sessions for 812 enrolled Year 11 (or equivalent) students at 12 unique education providers. We were also thrilled to work with 5 of those schools for the very first time. When asked to rate how valuable Steer Right would be for other students, on average our participants gave us a very respectable 8.2 out of 10.

Students commented on the program:

“I loved how passionate the talkers were and how they delivered the information in a very easy and understandable way” – Year 11 Student from Kyabram P-12 College.

“Learnt many things about road safety and how to speak up when we feel uncomfortable” – Year 11 Student from Wallan Secondary College.

“I felt that this program is informative and a must for all learner drivers” – Student from OneSchool Global.

With such an exciting and busy start to Term 4, we can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store for us! Road safety education for young people is more important than ever with restrictions on licence testing looking to be lifted in the near future, just as summer holidays approach.
